Batman Avenue Footbridge Competition

As part of the ongoing redevelopment of Melbourne Park, this new footbridge over Batman Avenue eschews a singular architectural\urban expression in favour of a sequence of spaces to encourage occupation in a diverse range of modes.

Transitioning from urban park to footbridge to urban forecourt within Melbourne Park, the scheme was conceived to provide a range of new connections between Birrarung Marr and the CBD; gathering spaces for repose as much as movement. The bridge itself is articulated as a piece of urban architecture suspended across Batman Avenue, resolutely volumetric and sculptural.

The project was designed in collaboration with Oculus Landscape Architects, WSP/Winward Group, David Morris Consulting and Urban Digestor.
