BKK were selected by the Parramatta City Council as part of a team including Glas Landscape Architecture & Urban Design, Renew Australia, Electrolight and Peter Emmett to create a new vision for an existing car park and associated laneway network. Conceived as part of a broader masterplanning initiative for the city, the brief called for concepts for the lane network and car park itself to activate the surrounding public realm and enhance the pedestrian experience of the city. The car park was re-envisioned as an important intermodal hub with a focus on opportunities for improved cyclist and pedestrian amenity. A mix of small and large interventions were conceived to encourage a more diverse mix of uses for the existing lane network, increasing the permeability of the ground plane and to articulate a more layered urban character.
