Little Saigon Welcome Arch

Located in the heart of the bustling Little Saigon Precinct, the Welcome Arch project was initiated to provide a new urban marker and gateway celebrating the Vietnamese Community’s history and ongoing contribution to Footscray. Our scheme was conceived as a contemporary “Moon Gate”, drawing upon the colour and exuberance of the local Vietnamese culture to create an iconic monument of state significance.

While the arch design is bold and simple, it is open to many, varied interpretations; at the outset the design teams approach was to create an urban space capable of adaptation, interaction and adornment rather than a strictly representational sculpture. Integrated lighting further activates the Arch and its surrounds.

The project was designed in collaboration with artist Louise Paramor, Relume Consulting and Kersulting.
