An addition to an Edwardian house provided the opportunity to redress a number of ad-hoc and ill-conceived previous additions that ignored the aspect and potential amenity of the dwelling. The new works are conceived as a type of ‘clip-on’ appendage to the existing building, clearly demarcating between the old and new. The soaring cantilever and large glazed areas provide a contemporary interpretation of the lean-to additions and verandah elements common to the original house style whilst opening the living spaces to the northern aspect. The new ‘super-verandah’ provides an important interstitial space between interior and exterior, a place for the family to gather in many different ways.
