Great Ocean House

A renovation to an existing coastal house. The original house was built by Merchant Builders in the 1970’s and featured good orientation, generous open spaces, excellent natural light and a modular design. The extension builds upon these notions, extending the modular nature of the construction to create a house that is contemporary, yet embraces it’s history. The super-frame element exaggerates the modularity further to create the potential for a seemingly endless extension. The materiality of the house was chosen to show the effects of the coastal environment over time.
