St Kilda House

The reinvention of a convoluted, rambling and overly dark house to a contemporary, light filled home for a family of five presented us with an opportunity to apply a number of design strategies across the site. Processes of editing and layering were employed in detailed ways to very specific areas of the house. This enabled us to uncover a hidden logic to the existing design and combine this with a new narrative. The result is a clear zoning of spaces throughout the house with various opportunities for children, adults and the family to come together. These spaces overlap and are easily re-configured to allow a variety of occupations and activities. A new addition to the rear of the site provided an opportunity for a dialog between the new and old.
