The Eastern Beach Mineral Springs scheme evolved as part of a greater process initiated by the City of Greater Geelong to develop a mineral springs spa and bath house complex within the Corio Bay area. The design concept is informed by the geological condition of fissures created in rock as the mineral water forces its way upwards. The strong horizontality of the design (suggestive of the strata of mineral deposits) is countered by the cracks through the building mass that act to carve out views to Corio Bay and beyond.
