This project is the first stage of a larger re-development program for the Dockland’s principle public realm. The design incorporates the creation of Melbourne’s first grand boulevard in many decades. Drawing on Melbourne’s tradition of tree-lined avenues, Harbour Esplanade is currently being upgraded to create a pedestrian friendly waterfront thoroughfare comprising dedicated cycle path, a rationalised roadway, a bluestone lined central tram median, all framed by dramatic double rows of Norfolk Island Pines. This first stage will establish a civic spine that will form the backbone for the ongoing transformation of Melbourne’s harbour front.
