A sophisticated retail environment balancing brand heritage with contemporary context, creating an intimate shopping experience within a bustling retail precinct.

When Bettina Liano sought to revitalize its fashion brand through the launch of a flagship store at Chadstone Shopping Centre, they engaged BKK Architects to create a distinctive retail environment that would embody their renewed brand values while establishing a design language for future locations across Australia and internationally.

Our design draws inspiration from historic design movements such as Art Nouveau, Moderne, and Art Deco – identified as key aesthetic markers for the clothing design strategy – reinterpreting these references through a contemporary lens that reflects the brand’s aspirations while acknowledging its shopping center context.

Instead of embracing the typical openness of retail tenancies, we introduced strong curved forms along one side of the store to create a series of intimate shopping zones, enhanced by ovoid-shaped rugs recessed into the floor. This spatial strategy creates a more personal and exclusive shopping experience that differentiates the store from surrounding retailers.
