Monash University Parkville Courtyard

Projects

We created this courtyard by revitalising a narrow gap between two tall buildings on Monash’s small Parkville Campus.

We put inviting timber platform seating along the courtyard’s southern edge, where it makes the most of the limited sunlight that penetrates the space. There are new trees, and a support for vines growing from planter boxes below. Screens shelter occupants from wind.

The platform seating and vertical elements on the courtyard’s periphery gradually increase in elevation.

The beautiful timber offers a hospitable and tactile experience in a useful place for students and staff to socialise, learn and relax. It creates a space that adds significantly to the culture and experience of the campus.
