Our Reconciliation Action Plan

The BKK Architects Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan is formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

We feel immensely privileged to be on a Reconciliation journey of creating and extending opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s participation in all aspects of our work.

Reconciliation Action Plans are deeply important in the Australian architecture and design industry. They take years of learning, research, discussion and relationship building – as they should.

So, as more and more practices are developing RAP’s, it makes sense to work collegially.

Therefore, we are core members of the Architecture + Design Reconciliation Industry Network Group, an industry ring whose members work together to implement our endorsed RAP’s. We learn more when we pool knowledge and experiences. And that’s better for the profession and better for Reconciliation.

In August 2023, BKK co-signed an open letter of support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Australian Constitution.

We support the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

At its heart, Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people, and we will do our absolute best to this end.

Our journey means learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives so that we are equipped to engage with and relate to people in informed ways. By being informed, we can achieve more.

Through our RAP, we aim to contextualise our practice beyond the here and now; to understand our place in the history of Australia, which spans over 60,000 years.

We welcome and value the work of the Victorian Government towards a treaty or treaties with Aboriginal Victorians. And as members of the Australian Institute of Architects, we acknowledge the work of the First Nations Advisory Working Group and Cultural Reference Panel and proudly support the Statement of Recognition.

We acknowledge the people of the Kulin Nation, Traditional Custodians of the land upon which we live and work, and we pay our respects to their Elders.
