Endless Spirit

Projects

A tactile retail experience that embodies the essence of clothing construction through architecture.

When wholesale clothing business Endless Spirit sought to establish their first retail presence, they turned to us to create a flagship store at Chadstone Shopping Centre that would embody their brand while setting the template for future locations. Our challenge was to develop a distinctive retail environment that would stand out among neighbouring stores while remaining adaptable to seasonal merchandise changes.

Working within the framework of the client’s broader branding strategy, we established a direct dialogue between the clothing and the interior architecture. The design concept draws inspiration from garment construction techniques—weaving, wrapping, and layering—to create a cohesive spatial narrative.

The customer journey begins with a tactile, upholstered entry portal that distinguishes the store and invites touch. Inside, a flowing continuous curtain weaves around the perimeter, unifying the space and culminating in the change rooms at the rear. This singular element creates a sense of enclosure while allowing flexible merchandising throughout.

Floating within this soft enclosure are precisely detailed elements: fine aluminium plate shelves, suspended display boards, and stainless-steel clothing racks, occasionally interrupted by full-height mirrors that expand the perceived space. Complementing these fixed elements are versatile upholstered “pods”—modular joinery units that function as both display surfaces and storage, with detachable clothing racks allowing for endless reconfiguration.

The material palette remains deliberately neutral, creating a sophisticated backdrop that allows the clothing to remain the focus while establishing a sensuous, tactile environment that enhances the shopping experience. This restraint in colour also accommodates seasonal merchandise changes without creating visual conflict.

Sustainability principles guided our approach to construction, with the entire fit out designed for disassembly and reuse. With no fixed internal walls and modular, removable elements, the store can be easily reconfigured or relocated with minimal waste—embodying our commitment to responsible design practices.

Through rigorous testing via physical models, sketches, and digital renderings, we developed an architectural language inspired by the concept of “gift wrap” or unravelling, which was then systematically applied to planning, materiality, and detail. This process-driven approach, where ideas evolve through investigation rather than predetermined outcomes, exemplifies our studio’s design methodology—creating spaces that resonate with meaning while serving practical retail needs.
